Preparing for Mastering

When booking a mastering session we will ask you a series of questions to get information about the session. If you have a reference of another artist it is useful to mention that too.

If there was confusion at the mixing stage as to levels of say, the vocals, you could provide a vocal up mix and decide on that later in the mastering studio.

Multitrack stems can be provided for final balance of instrument groups. There is an extra charge for this as it can get time consuming. A rate of $77 inc GST per hour will be added on top of the cost per track. Since I have 25 years of mixing experience for many international artists, this may prove to be a good option for you.

Unless it's really crucial to the sound anything put on the mix buss output could be detrimental to the mastering stage especially mega gain compressors like Waves L2. Take them off before mixing down the final version.

Once the material has been processed you will be given a reference CD for you to play in your known players and listening environments.  Once you let us know you're happy then the production master is made & delivered.

Audio Formats:

Pretty much anything you want to give us is fine. Personally, for digital mixes 32 bit float is optimum as it cannot be overloaded at the mixdown stage.

Supply it on audio CD (although this is only 16 bit), Data CD/DVD
DAT tape
Hard drive - please advise us of format etc
Most other formats as we have a good resourse of equipment.
1/4" Tape

We currently do not have a half inch machine but we are working on that!
